CEES SLIEDRECHT

Cees Sliedrecht is a qualified teacher who came to Australia in the late 1970’s. His initial art studies were taken at Art Academies in Rotterdam and The Hague and later on he continued his art development in both Melbourne and Sydney, eventually settling in Brisbane.

Although he has worked in both oils and acrylics, his preferred medium is watercolour in association with pen, pencil, pastel and charcoal. His paintings entertain a wide variety of topics such as: sceneries, rivers, buildings, forests, people, still life and objects. He has held numerous successful mixed and solo exhibitions, collecting numerous prizes for his works. Cees paints in a very individual style, semi abstract but still with recognisable shapes and delightful line work.

Cees has his own Fine Arts School called AQUArtists, in 2006, in Brisbane. Cees is very active in holding art workshops in Queensland and New South Wales, fulfils judging roles at various art shows (including those connected with the Brisbane Festival) and teaches drawing and painting at TAFE and the Brisbane Arts Academy. His works can be viewed at various Art Galleries in Brisbane.

Cees (www.ceesart.com) will be holding one workshop during the festival. This is detailed below.

WORKSHOP: Let’s abstract from Nature’s Beauty (Code CS1)

Workshop fully booked, but please still register for this workshop as you will be put on the waiting list. We will contact you if a place becomes vacant. If we have sufficient interest, we will try to arrange another workshop after the Festival.

DESCRIPTION:

The day in-between the two workshop days will give you both time to practice what you are learning, and to enjoy the other activities at the Festival.

We will be exploring nature outdoors, noting down unforgettable images of the native trees, the striking Banksia’s, the layers of leaves, dead branches, debris and anything else we find hidden on the multicoloured carpet which covers the bushy Bribie sands.

Our focus will also be on the seascape of Bribie Island with miles of beaches and distant mountains. Indoors we will be working out our best studies and transform them into treasures of linework, composition and mixed media. We may also sketch and paint an underwater scene with colourful fish and coral from reference materials provided.

Before we start our journey I will be teaching you drawing techniques, colour mixing, composition and ways to make your work more lively, interesting and exciting. Let’s go.

See you all at the workshop.

TIME AND PLACE: July 23 and July 25 (2 days), 8.30am to 4pm, Studio 2, Community Arts Centre.

WORKSHOP FEE: $140

ART MATERIALS LIST: Download Material List. Also to be supplied on registration.
